Seth Pae.

Picture
Seth Pae pushes the boundaries to redefine what classical musicians can do. As an energetic musical force, elite orchestral player, chamber musician, and soloist in the Chicagoland area, Seth has performed with the Chicago Sinfonietta as their Paul Freeman Fellow for the last three seasons. He regularly guests with the critically acclaimed Crossing Borders String Quartet, and is a champion of “new music,” performing works written by living composers with a focus on composers of color.

In a recent collaboration with the Gabriella Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music, Seth gave the world premiere of Joel Ponce’s Shaping for solo viola. Seth has appeared with prestigious orchestras including the Lyric Opera Orchestra, Quad City Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and the South Bend Symphony Orchestra. He was the Project Inclusion Viola Fellow with the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra (2018), and a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago (2017-2019).

Seth is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the arts on and off stage, actively seeking out projects and collaborations that focus on musicians of color and under-served communities.

He currently works with the Rachel Barton-Pine Foundation researching and cataloging string quartets written by Black composers. Seth is a student mentor with the Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative and a teaching artist with the Chicago Arts and Musical Project.

Seth earned an Artist’s Diploma (2017), a Master’s Degree from DePaul University in Chicago (2015), and a Bachelor’s Degree from Baldwin Wallace University (2013).
