Lucy Little.

Picture
Lucy Little is a classically-trained violinist and multi-instrumentalist, composer/improviser, teaching artist, and Fulbright scholar with an eclectic background in music, multimedia storytelling and production, and public service. Lucy’s musical practice lives on the edge of many styles, inspired by a lifelong exploration of classical, minimalist, modal, jazz and electronic music. From NYC with roots in Chicago, Amsterdam, and Boston, Lucy’s work explores themes of risk, traveling, searching for home, and finding support and community in the oddest of places.

Lucy's a collaborative artist at heart, playing in blues/indie rock outfit Half Gringa and chamber rock group The Phantom Broadcast; with Dani Larkin (Northern Ireland), Lykanthea and MICHA Música (USA); and with qanun player Afarin Nazarijou (USA/Iran). She has performed premieres at Jordan Hall (Boston); a duo for The Boiler House, a sold-out solo show, opening for Le Butcherettes and The Flaming Lips, NPR's Tiny Desk Contest, Steppenwolf Theater, and the MCA (Chicago); Joe’s Pub (NYC), The Black Box (Belfast), and the SXSW festival.

Lucy’s compositional work includes scores for SFMOMA's Raw Materials, her solo electro-acoustic performance project incorporating violin, vocals, guitar, and electronics, and theatrical / dance productions. She released her first solo EP For Now (2021).

Lucy completed her master’s degree in contemporary improvisation at the New England Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Eden MacAdam Somer, Carla Kilshedt, Nicholas Kitchen, Ted Reichman, Liz Knowles, Ran Blake, Hankus Netsky, and Anthony Coleman; is a long-time student of Todd Reynolds and Addison Teng; and was a Fulbright-Schumann scholar to the EU (2018), where she worked with Musicians Without Borders conducting research on how musicians support asylum-seekers and social inclusion practices.

Lucy has a passion for and professional background in youth arts education, communications/graphic design, and social circus. Lucy is a freelance video/audio editor and produces Andrew D’Angelo’s Constant Constance.
